ABSTRACT: ENHANCING CONSUMER ASSISTANCE IN KANSANS FOR HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE ISSUES The Kansas Insurance Department (KID) is requesting $270,000 in grant funding from HHS to strengthen its consumer assistance function and build capacity in response to recent legislation. KID is the state agency responsible for implementing many elements of the ACA. KID has a solid history of leadership in consumer affairs, earning a reputation for equitable and conflict-free service in its various functions. KID consumer assistance staff frequently works with the state CHIP program, CMS, the Department of Labor, Kansas Medicaid, and other agencies. KID?s consumer assistance staff is skilled in handling health insurance issues covered under state and federal law. The Life and Health Unit has 6 dedicated FTE?s with bi-lingual capabilities and TTY for hearing impaired.
