DCBS is requesting $400,000 in federal funds for proposed enhancements to our Consumer Advocacy Unit (CAU). Serving the nearly 4 million residents of Oregon, CAU staff advise and educate consumers regarding the Oregon Insurance Code, as well as coach consumers through appeals processes. However, it is our goal to use grant funding to enhance our program by becoming more efficient in referring consumers to the appropriate program or organization to help them with their specific health insurance needs. In order to achieve this goal, we will use grant funds to provide a health advocacy and assistance clearinghouse that can provide information about a variety of health insurance programs and, if necessary, seamlessly transfer consumers to the correct state agency or community organization. The clearinghouse will include access to CAU staff and the direct assistance services that we currently offer to Oregon consumers. HHS’ Tracking Accountability in Government Grants System (TAGGS) website provides access to detailed descriptions of grants, loans, aggregated direct payments and other types of financial assistance awarded by the HHS Operating Divisions (OPDIVs) and the Office of the Secretary Staff Divisions (STAFFDIVs).
