Fiscal Year 2023 Capital Assistance for Hurricane Response and Recovery Efforts (CARE) - Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center, Inc. (RCCHC), an FQHC Look-Alike since 2005 and a grantee since 2007, is dedicated to improving access to care and addressing the unmet health care needs of the residents in Bertie, Gates, Hertford, Northampton and Washington counties in northeastern NC. Our target population includes all residents in the service area with incomes below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, all residents who are uninsured and underinsured, along with all Seasonal Agricultural Workers living in the 5 county area. In 2022, RCCHC provided comprehensive, high quality, integrated, patient centered primary care to over 16,000 patients through 5 primary care practice locations, a student wellness center, a mobile unit, clinical outreach to the agricultural workers in our service area and two onsite 340b pharmacies. Hurricane Ian’s winds and rain hit eastern North Carolina September 28-30th, 2022 and was a challenging storm that had widespread impacts in RCCHC’s service area. In Hertford County Hurricane Ian deposited 3.8” of rain with the highest wind gust of 36 mph being reported during the storm. There were localized areas receiving higher rainfall amounts and multiple power outages reported (Hertford County Board of Commissioners Meeting, October 3, 2022). RCCHC’s proposed Capital Assistance for Hurricane Response and Recovery Efforts (CARE) project will add 1,307 square feet of pharmacy space with a drive-thru window to the Murfreesboro Primary Care (MPC) office in Murfreesboro (Hertford County), North Carolina. The 1,307sf facility will feature its own entrance with a lobby and private consultation room for patients needing to meet with the pharmacist. We will build a covered drive-thru window for easy access for pharmacy patients. MPC is currently equipped with a generator that is able to allow the clinic to open for limited services that will include pharmacy services to allow patients to access needed medical services and prescriptions during future disasters/emergencies. RCCHC plans to implement an EHR based pharmacy electronic information system to ensure that health care team members can effectively engage in the patient’s entire health maintenance, avoid preventable complications, reinforce prevention, and facilitate quick access to needed patient data.
