Fiscal Year 2023 Capital Assistance for Hurricane Response and Recovery Efforts (CARE) - Central Florida Family Health Center, Inc., dba True Health (CFFHC) is requesting $490,000 in funding through the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) FY2023 Capital Assistance for Hurricane Response and Recovery Efforts (CARE) opportunity. These funds will be used to support an Equipment Only Project and an Alteration/ Renovation project at CFFHC’s Casselberry (Census Tract 0222.05) service delivery location in Seminole County, Florida to bolster its ability to respond and recover operations more quickly in the face of a severe weather event, other disaster impact, and/or emergency. With your support, True Health will not only be able to improve healthcare access but sustain it. CFFHC operates eight service delivery locations in the Central Florida area; four in Seminole County and four in Orange County. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) declared both counties as areas impacted by Hurricane Ian in September 2022. Much of Central Florida lost power for several days, including some of our health centers. Although Central Florida sustained minor damage as compared to much of the state, CFFHC was forced to suspend operations for two days. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook is forecasting a range of twelve to seventeen total named storms in 2023. Of those, between five and nine could become hurricanes, including one to four major hurricanes (category 3, 4, or 5). As a safety net health provider, CFFHC understands the importance of being prepared to continue or resume operations as soon as possible after a severe weather event or other emergency. The CARE funds will be used to procure mobile stand-alone power inverters and back-up power packs that can be used to supply power to clinical and pharmacy refrigerators in the event of power loss. Funding will also be used to support a number of renovations to improve safety and energy efficiency at our Casselberry location, including new energy efficient Heating, Ventilation, and Cooling (HVAC) units, installation of a fire protection system, and a solar battery to store and provide back-up power to that location.
