Marimn Health Wellbriety Program - ABSTRACT The Coeur d’Alene Tribal Benewah Medical Center dba Marimn Health is requesting $400,000 through the HHS-IHS Substance Abuse and Suicide Prevention Program: Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment, and Aftercare Funding Opportunity No. HHS-2022-IHS-SAPTA-001. Marimn proposes to expand an existing SUD recovery program to include prevention-treatment-and recovery activities which provide access to services, education, as well as, support cultural resiliency within the entire community. The program will extend beyond those who are returning home from incarceration or in-treatment and will expand to provide a range of support services for youth, families and members of the community. With the goal in mind to reduce the prevalence of substance abuse and decrease the overall use of addicting and illicit substance among American Indian and Alaska Native populations; Marimn will enhance existing cross-system collaboration, expand to include youth, family and community resources, as well as, enhance culturally appropriate approaches. As funding for the ReEntry program is static, this proposal re-brands ReEntry into the Wellbriety Program; designed with a comprehensive community-driven approach. Much of the administrative infrastructure is in place. A tribal resolution established the Tribal Community Coalition which is made up of supporting entities within the community. Policies are in place to address implementation of the project goal. Basic program structure is in place with staff, meeting rooms and offices. Several sites within the community also exist (including 3 schools, and a family activity center) which can provide for community outreach, education, and referral to wrap around services. The proposed SAPTA funding will support a community needs assessment which includes an assessment of existing community collaboration policies and protocols. Funding will also provide for hiring 3 additional staff: a project coordinator for adults, a project coordinator for youth, and an adult counselor/case manager to create a comprehensive support team that can strengthen and empower families by addressing the SUD crisis within the community. Key objectives of this program are to establish a strong community coalition which becomes aligned, through training and education, with the program goals and objectives. In conjunction with this key objective is to provide community-wide training. This training is related to implementing successful strategies that transition the population from a state of crisis into a healthy community. Rental housing assistance and culturally relevant supplies are the final funding requirements to support community members who are transitioning into a healthy, culturally resilient community. The Coeur d’Alene Tribal Wellbriety Program is experienced and prepared to successfully implement the Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment, and Aftercare program objectives.
