ANTHC Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention Program - The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is a non-profit tribal health organization whose mission is to provide “the highest quality health services in partnership with our people and the Alaska Tribal Health System”. ANTHC envisions a future where “Alaska Native people are the healthiest people in the world” and has created the most comprehensive statewide tribal health system in the United States with programs ranging from clinical care to community interventions. With these values in mind ANTHC's proposed SPIP grant project would focus on continuing and expanding upon suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention services that contribute to an enhanced infrastructure of addressing suicide in Alaska through activities to reduce the prevalence of suicide among AN/AI people. The ANTHC Suicide Prevention program proposes to provide service provider and community-focused training, education and support by using evidence-based and practice-based suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention trainings that are culturally relevant for the Alaska Native populations and communities. Driven by the consistently high rates of suicide in the State of Alaska, particularly the high rate of suicide among the Alaska Native (AN) population, the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) Suicide Prevention program through the Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention (SPIP) grant will improve care coordination, expand behavioral health care services, and develop/expand activities to implement early intervention strategies of Alaska Native and/or American Indian (AN/AI) youth at risk for suicidal behavior for two communities in the Southwestern region of Alaska. These trainings aim to increase partner communities capacity to improve care coordination, to make appropriate screening and referrals, and increase resiliency, promote positive development, and self-sufficient behaviors for AN/AI youth. Through identified needs of communities and tribal partners, formal suicide response plans will be develop to ensure stability of project activities beyond the grant. Expand behavioral health telehealth care treatment services to partners and provide evidence-based, culturally appropriate, trauma-informed suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention by collaborating with ANTHC Behavioral Health Wellness Clinic.
