Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services (VDM) Vista Haven program is operated under the licensing authority of the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) Community Care Licensing (CCL) to provide temporary shelter care to male youth ages 12 through 17. The licensed capacity for Vista Haven 24 beds. The facility in which the program is housed consists of a single story with three wings for services. The central area of the facility contains two staff offices. Two wings of the facility contain bedrooms for youth for sleeping and two rooms for visitation and counseling. One wing contains a large room used as a living room/common area, one large classroom, one kitchen, a large room for used as a dining room and other activities, one kitchen, and three multipurpose rooms. There is one designated area within the outside perimeter of Vista Haven designated for outdoor recreation and physical education. Vista Haven provides temporary shelter care and related vital services to unaccompanied children in custody of ORR while working to unite these children with their family or other sponsor quickly and without subjecting them to additional trauma. Vista Haven welcomes children from diverse backgrounds, providing everything they need to flourish, and with connections to their culture, ethnicity, race, and language. For over 100 years, VDM has provided a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed continuum of specialized and therapeutic services to children and families. VDM uses this expertise to provide core services to children in Vista Haven that addresses all their needs, including acculturation and adaptation services; recreation and leisure activities (e.g., sports, support for health and wellness); case management; education assessment and continued education; individualized mental health assessment followed by group and individual counseling (with intensive therapeutic services as needed); development of an Individual Service Plan (ISP); safety assessment and planning; medical needs assessment and care; legal services; family reunification services, placement in appropriate foster care situation, or other release services; and all required ongoing daily board and care. Vista Haven staff receive training to provide quality and effective services utilizing strengths-based approaches that are trauma-informed, with a focus on cultural awareness and competence and sensitivity to diversity. Additionally, Vista Haven provides medical services to children through a team of medical professionals that includes a registered nurse and licensed practical nurse daily onsite, and frequent onsite visits from a pediatric physician and a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist.
