Restorative and Integrative Survivor Empowerment (RISE) - Building on longstanding partnerships and a combined two decades of experience, Asylee Women Enterprise (AWE), in collaboration with the Hopkins, Esperanza, and Loyola Refugee Health and Asylum Collaborative (HEAL) and the Intercultural Counseling Connection, proposes to provide comprehensive services to survivors of torture and their families to help restore health, community, agency, and economic wellbeing, while also enhancing local and national capacity to address the long-term, complex needs of survivors.
In FY2024, AWE, as the primary recipient, and HEAL and the Connection as subrecipients, will provide comprehensive services to 80 new and 40 returning survivors of torture and their families. While all survivors in Maryland will be eligible for services, priority will be given to asylum seekers and other survivors without permanent status and residing in Baltimore and the surrounding countries
Services provided will be holistic, trauma-responsive, culturally and linguistically appropriate, and will include: legal representation and education; individual, family, and group therapy; primary and specialty medical care; forensic medical and psychological evaluations; job readiness activities and education; emergency and transitional housing and rental support; material support and benefits application assistance; connections to resettlement agencies and community based organizations and activities; and leadership development opportunities.
The Restorative and Integrative Survivor Empowerment Program (RISE) will allow AWE, HEAL, and the Connection to continue to build on existing programs and partnerships and further integrate the provision of services to survivors, thereby ensuring they have access to the community support and medical, psychological, legal, and social services they need to begin to heal and rebuild their lives with safety, stability, and self-sufficiency.
