Love Notes 4.1, Abstinence Only (AO): Healthy Relationships and Sexual Risk Avoidance Education - Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside (BGCGRR) requests $450,000 annually for a two-year project period through the Title V Competitive Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) program to implement an evidence-based sexual risk avoidance education initiative serving approximately 450 youth annually, ages 10 to 18, in Redlands Unified School District, San Bernardino Unified School District, and Riverside Unified School District. The proposed project will implement the Love Notes 4.1 Sexual Risk Avoidance Adaptation (AO) curriculum, an evidence-based program that equips youth with the knowledge and skills to voluntarily refrain from non-marital sexual activity while promoting healthy relationships, future orientation, goal setting, personal responsibility, and positive decision-making. Programming will address all applicable Title V SRAE topics, including healthy relationships, resisting peer pressure, avoiding substance use and other youth risk behaviors, preventing sexual coercion and dating violence, and recognizing and responding to human trafficking. Programming will be delivered by trained facilitators in partnership with participating school districts using medically accurate, age-appropriate, culturally appropriate, and evidence-based instruction. Participants will also have access to supportive services through BGCGRR, including behavioral health resources, academic support, mentoring, and referrals to community-based services when appropriate. BGCGRR currently serves more than 18,000 youth annually across 66 locations in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties and has extensive experience implementing evidence-based youth development programs through strong school and community partnerships. The organization will use established performance management systems to monitor implementation fidelity, participant engagement, required federal performance measures, and continuous quality improvement throughout the project period. Through this initiative, BGCGRR will strengthen protective factors, promote healthy decision-making, reduce behaviors that place youth at risk, and equip participants with the skills needed to build healthy relationships and achieve long-term personal, educational, and economic success.
