System-involved and underserved youth in the Greater Los Angeles Area (GLAA) have higher teen birth, STI, and other sexual risk factor rates than both the national and State of California average. The rates for (GLAA) system-involved and underserved youth have not experienced a decline commensurate with the national declines for teen births and STIs. The Community College Foundation implements education on sexual risk avoidance; we offer youth an opportunity to be part of a remote, in-person or hybrid class of 8-20 youth that meets at least once a week for 1.5-3 hours for 6-13 weeks. We facilitate 6-12 sessions a year in Greater Los Angeles County We work with community partners such as the Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD) Volunteers of America-Upward Bound, and Aspiranet, as well as government agencies. We are working with our local evaluator to examine trauma informed classroom techniques in various settings (hybrid, in person and online) to identify best practices with highly traumatized youth and compile a toolbox of teaching skills that can be adapted to all populations.
