Brushstrokes of Hope: Empowering Massachusetts Youth Through Sexual Risk Avoidance Education and Positive Youth Development. Every Brushstroke Builds A Brighter Tomorrow! - Hammar's Art Studio & Cultural Center, LLC, located in Dracut, Massachusetts, proposes to implement Brushstrokes of Hope, a comprehensive General Departmental Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (GD-SRAE) initiative serving adolescents ages 10–19 throughout northeastern Massachusetts, with primary implementation in the Merrimack Valley and Greater Lowell region. The project will expand access to medically accurate, age-appropriate, evidence-based Sexual Risk Avoidance Education that promotes healthy relationships, personal responsibility, self-regulation, refusal skills, goal setting, future orientation, and voluntary abstinence from non-marital sexual activity. Over the 3-year project period, Brushstrokes of Hope will serve 1,650 adolescents, reaching 400 youth in Year 1, 550 in Year 2, and 700 in Year 3 through partnerships with schools, faith-based organizations, municipalities, youth-serving organizations, and community agencies. Primary implementation will focus on communities including Lowell, Lawrence, Dracut, Tyngsborough, Tewksbury, Chelmsford, Methuen, and Haverhill. Two of the project's core partners — the Boys & Girls Club and Girls Inc. of Lowell MA — have already executed formal partnership agreements, and a 3rd, St. Ann's Home & School in Methuen, has provided a signed letter of support; together these three partners already document combined capacity exceeding 1,100 youth served annually, representing more than 2/3rds of the project's full 3-year enrollment goal. The project will deliver REAL Essentials® – Starting Point to youth ages 10–14 and REAL Essentials® Advance to youth ages 15–19 with complete fidelity through Certified REAL Essentials® Program Educators. Evidence-based instruction will be reinforced through the Brushstrokes of Hope Teach • Reflect • Reinforce Model, which incorporates guided reflection, creative expression, Positive Youth Development, and sustained school and community engagement without modifying the approved curricula. Implementation will be led by the Project Director and supported by three Certified REAL Essentials® Program Educators responsible for delivering the age-appropriate curricula with fidelity, along with a full-time Community Partnership Coordinator responsible for partnership development, participant recruitment, and coordination with participating schools and community organizations. The Brushstrokes of Hope School Champions Network will further support site-level coordination, participant engagement, and reinforcement, while contracted student transportation will reduce barriers to participation and the Legacy Schools Initiative will strengthen sustained school and community engagement. Performance measurement, curriculum fidelity monitoring, federal reporting, and Continuous Quality Improvement will support accountability and program quality throughout the project period. Through this integrated approach, Brushstrokes of Hope seeks to strengthen healthy relationships and protective factors, improve responsible decision-making and future orientation, reduce barriers to evidence-based GD-SRAE programming, and establish sustainable school-community partnerships capable of extending the reach and impact of Sexual Risk Avoidance Education throughout northeastern Massachusetts.
