Examining the Effect of Bioecological Factors on Expectations for Community Living and Participation: An Exploratory Multi-Method Investigation
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this multi-method project is to examine the effect of key bioecological factors on CLP expectations across six CLP domains, as well as the ways in which individuals with IDD and families of individuals with IDDs’ experiences and perceptions of CLP expectations to inform and enhance future CLP research, policy, and practice across contexts and disciplines (e.g., education, medicine, workforce, direct support provision).
The following research questions will guide this work:
1. Are bioecological factors associated with the six domains of CLP outcome expectations?
2. Do the measured CLP Expectations for CLP Outcomes Scale items represent the six domains of CLP outcome expectations?
3. How do participants describe the formation of their expectations for CLP outcomes?
4. How do participants experience the bioecological factors identified as having an effect on CLP expectations?
5. How do participants describe actions they took, plan to take, or did not take regarding CLP outcomes, based on their CLP expectations.
6. What recommendations to participants have for enhancing expectations for CLP outcomes across bioecological structures regarding CLP domains.
The proposed project will employ two methodological approaches: (1) survey research with multivariate analyses and (2) grounded theory qualitative research.
Anticipated outcomes and products will include (a) CLP Expectations Survey, (b) multivariate analysis, (c) CLP Expectations and Outcomes Theoretical Framework, (d) recommendations for research, policy and practice; and (e) dissemination products.
