Maine State Health Insurance Assistance Program 2025-2030 - The Maine Office of Aging and Disability Services, as a part of Maine Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with Maine’s five Area Agencies on Aging and Legal Services for Maine Elders, will over the course of the five years of this grant, work to maintain and expand a statewide coordinated State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) that serves current and future Medicare beneficiaries by consistently and confidentially providing accurate, objective and comprehensive Medicare information and assistance, and by promoting awareness, knowledge and visibility of the program. The Maine SHIP will continue to work to empower, educate, and assist Medicare-eligible individuals, their families, and caregivers through objective outreach, counseling, and training to make informed health insurance decisions that optimize access to care and benefits. In addition, the Maine SHIP will continue to focus on the enhancement of the SHIP program structure through counselor development, training activities, outreach efforts, and partnership building. In this five-year grant period, the Maine SHIP will work to achieve the vision of SHIP to be known and trusted community resource for Medicare information. This will include the following highlights; to provide service excellence, to build on current capacity, to achieve operational excellence, to continue to work toward innovation, and to use established performance measures to evaluate our progress. Maine continues to strive to consistently and confidentially provide accurate, objective, and comprehensive information and assistance to Maine Medicare beneficiaries. With this in mind, we have identified various objectives that must be met to achieve the goals, which include: 1. Expand volunteer capacity and capabilities 2. ,Increase outreach 3. Build innovation 4. Expand and strengthen the program structure and organization 5. Promote awareness, knowledge, and visibility of the program With these objectives in mind, we expect to produce outreach and marketing materials, enhanced recruitment of and training for volunteers, partnerships with our fellows on assisting beneficiaries, and awareness of the Area Agencies on Aging’s (AAA) capabilities to the general public. We also will expand and enhance our program evaluation methods to monitor and track progress on our objectives.
