State Health Insurance Assistant Program (SHIP) - Kansas Department on Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) has been and continues to be committed to empowering, educating, and assisting the community to make informed health insurance decisions in order to optimize access to care and benefits through Medicare. Currently Kansas’s SHIP program collaborates with community organizations; however, KDADS recognizes areas of improvement and is looking forward to the opportunity of continuing to work toward new and innovated goals. Kansas’s goal(s) is to expand and enhance the current SHIP program by identifying entities throughout the state programs in which SHIP has not partnered with. For example, one area in which we plan to enhance our collaborative efforts is with the Community Mental Health Centers, Colleges, employers, Tribes, and other state agencies. Partnering and presenting at statewide conferences, health fairs, state fair, open enrollment events, and other areas in which requests are made for state office participation. These are all areas that will allow Kansas to provide education on the SHIP program and assist with expanding our reach of the hard-to-reach population. This will allow Kansas to continue expanding our volunteer base, the number of active SHIP partners, enrollment contacts, the number of beneficiaries receiving education, the number of client contacts throughout the year, outreach contacts, and hard-to-reach populations. Kansas will utilize the Administration for Community Living (ACL) STARS data base to analyze, and trend reports to share with community partners in order to enhance outcomes throughout the state.
