North Carolina SHIP Base Grant 2025-2030 Application - The Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) within the NC Department of Insurance is requesting $1,630,511.00 annually from the Administration for Community Living (ACL) to continue to promote and disseminate Medicare information, education, counseling, and enrolling of older adults and those citizens with disabilities into Medicare and Medicare-related products for the five-year grant period of April 1, 2025 through March 31, 2030. Our primary goal is to raise awareness and offer counseling services and support to the 2.2 million Medicare beneficiaries in North Carolina. We will reach our objectives through the coordinated efforts of our SHIIP staff, county coordinators, partner organizations, and trained volunteers to: 1) assist consumers with their understanding of Medicare; 2) educate consumers and ensure their understanding of available Medicare options; and, 3) help consumers apply for financial assistance when eligible. Anticipated outcomes include; 1) increased number of informed consumers in both urban and rural areas; 2) educated consumers making better choices concerning their Medicare needs; 3) increased consumer knowledge about the benefits and limitations of Medicare products and; 4) helping consumers understand the eligibility and opportunities of financial assistance programs. Targeted advertising campaigns through various digital and print outlets will be utilized to reach consumers throughout the state. SHIIP staff will conduct outreach at local county events and health fairs, and SHIIP messaging will be promoted and shared through partner newsletters and websites. Collaborations with existing partnerships will be strengthened and we will engage new partners throughout the grant period. The ongoing recruitment and training of SHIIP volunteers for our 103 county coordinating sites will continue to be a priority.
