New Mexico State Health Insurance Assistance Program - Summary/Abstract SHIP 2025-2030 The primary goal of the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Service Department’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is to provide one-on-one assistance, counseling, and education to Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers to help them make informed decisions about their care and benefits. NM SHIP will use these funds to provide person-centered counseling and enhance outreach efforts, education and one-on-one assistance to Medicare beneficiaries regarding their options, including assistance applying for benefits and filing claims for Medicare and Medicaid, Medicare policy, plan, and benefits comparison, information regarding long-term care insurance, information regarding other types of health insurance benefits, and referrals to appropriate agencies for assistance related to other needs beyond the scope of SHIP services. The objectives are: (1) improve service excellence and increase program name recognition, (2) build capacity by recruiting more volunteers, (3) improve operational excellence through policy updates and use of best practices, and (4) increase innovation through strategic planning and staff empowerment. Anticipated outcomes include: (1) increased beneficiary contacts and outreach events and increased name recognition, (2) development and retention of employees and volunteers and quantification of job satisfaction, (3) consistent, high-quality service based on best practices, (4) engaging, relevant outreach events and materials. Expected products include: SHIP name recognition survey, staff and volunteer satisfaction survey, marketing and outreach materials, and best practices documents.
