Alaska SHIP in the Last Frontier - The goal of the State of Alaska’s Medicare Information Office is to empower Medicare-eligible Alaskans, their families and caregivers to make informed health insurance decisions that optimize access to care and benefits. This is consistent with State of Alaska’s Department of Health Senior and Disabilities Services Division mission to promote health, wellbeing, and safety for the individuals with disabilities, seniors, and vulnerable adults by facilitating access to quality services and supports that foster independence, personal choice, & dignity. The objectives are to: 1) Provide accurate and comprehensive information and assistance 2) Promote awareness and visibility of the program; 3) Recruit, train and retain a diverse and effective workforce; 4) Develop and strengthen the program structure and organization, including policies, processes and procedures to enable effective and efficient operations; 5) Promote adaptable and sustainable processes and activities to position the Alaska SHIP for changes in the programmatic landscape. The expected outcomes include: 1) Maintain and grow grantee sites and volunteer workforce 2) Improve volunteer recruitment, retention and management. 3) Increasing Ambassador Program to reach our hard-to-reach rural population in their communities from a trusted source across Alaska. 4) Increase limited English-speaking client contacts through an innovative outreach plan. 5) Increase access for Alaskans to learn about Medicare by embracing technology Products: Alerts/Flyers for partners to post on doors, bulletin boards, and to distribute electronically concerning current Medicare Trends, Part D Open Enrollment, and Volunteer Recruitment. Products will be shared using the SHIPTA Center Library. Ambassador Program table stand, training materials, and documents.
