2025 Virginia SHIP Grant - In this 5-year grant project period, the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), in conjunction with the 24 VICAP (Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program) participating Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs), will be known as a trusted community resource for Medicare information by providing consistent, confidential, accurate information and assistance, thus empowering Medicare-eligible individuals, their families, and caregivers through objective outreach, counseling, and training, to make informed health insurance decisions that optimize access to care and benefits. Just as in our previous grant, our goal is to promote awareness across the Commonwealth of the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)/VICAP and the services it provides. Our objectives in this grant are: 1) to expand our outreach and education activities and 2) increase our focus on volunteer recruitment. Our anticipated outcomes include: 1) an increase in the number of volunteers that provide counseling and assistance to our beneficiaries and 2) an increase in the number of beneficiaries served. The expected products during this grant period include television and radio commercials, digital and social media initiatives, outreach materials that include a QR code, a program brochure and rack cards, recruitment materials and annual training.
