STATE HEALTH INSURANCE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SHIP) - The Indiana Department of Insurance’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), in partnership with the Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs)/Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs) and other key organizations will, during this five-year project, provide free, impartial health insurance counseling to people with Medicare. Our primary goal is to provide one-on-one assistance, counseling, and education for people with Medicare, their families, and caregivers so that they make wise decisions regarding their healthcare choices. The objectives of this project are to (1) consistently and confidentially provide accurate, objective, and comprehensive information and assistance; (2) promote awareness, knowledge, and visibility of the program; (3) recruit, train and retain a diverse, sufficient, and effective workforce at all levels; (4) develop and strengthen the program structure and organization, including policies, processes, and procedures, to enable effective and efficient operations and improve reporting capabilities; and (5) promote adaptable and sustainable processes and activities to position the SHIP for change. Our outcomes will include increasing the total one-on-one client contacts; reaching more beneficiaries through presentations, booths/exhibits at health/senior fairs, and enrollment events; improving the number of contacts with beneficiaries under age 65; expand hard-to-reach contacts in low-income, rural, and non-native English communities; and boost unduplicated enrollment contacts. These outcomes will be measured using STARS data. Products produced will include traditional media such as brochures, information packets, flyers, Powerpoint presentations, and advertisements. Furthermore, we will expand our internet presence on social media including Facebook, X, Instagram, etc., and investigate using Artificial Intelligence to expand our influence. All products will be targeting specific Medicare populations and used to drill down into local communities.
