Research and Education to support the Science of Independent Living for Inclusion and Engagement: National Center of Excellence RRTC (RESILIENCE RRTC) - Evidence-based programs to address function of people living with disabilities and their caregivers are often unscaled beyond their research settings. Two programs that have scaled in multiple settings, CAPABLE and the Chicago Parent Program, are based at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. The overarching goal of the Research and Education to support the Science of Independent Living for Inclusion and Engagement: National Center of Excellence RRTC (RESILIENCE RRTC) is to improve health and function of people with disabilities and their caregivers through addressing stakeholder demand for tested alterations to these programs. The objectives are adapting and testing these programs for new populations or new delivery methods and improving sustainability by incorporating key stakeholder perspectives. We will accomplish these objectives using human-centered design methods and a multi-level resilience framework. We will serve as a national resource center on disability and caregiving by providing information and technical assistance to consumers and providing training to postdoctoral fellows and disability and aging services providers. Our findings will be disseminated to the scientific community and to people with physical disabilities and their caregivers. Short-term Center outcomes: advances in translational research and implementation science; intermediate outcomes: increased availability of evidence-based interventions that improve caregiver support services for those assisting family members with a disability. Center outputs include: (1) individualized format for Chicago Parent Program; (2) training modules for clinicians and family members to involve caregivers in CAPABLE; (3) practice support for primary care settings to integrate CAPABLE; (4) policy conference; (5) plain language fact sheets for dissemination of results through partnerships with organizations serving people with disabilities and their caregivers.
