The purpose of the RRTC on Employment of Transition-Age Youth with Disabilities is to generate evidence-based interventions to assist youth to enter competitive integrated employment. To accomplish this, we have engaged a Consortium of researchers who bring the knowledge and expertise to offer a well-rounded series of studies. The leadership team of the Consortium includes Dr. Wehman and Ms. Getzel: VCU; Dr. Carter: Vanderbilt; Dr. Tansey: University of WI-Madison, and Dr. Rumrill: Kent State. Our studies in the grant proposal address a critical need for increased evidence-based research for youth with disabilities, family members, school personnel, VR counselors and other stakeholders to receive information on interventions and practices that can impact the employment outcomes of transition-age youth. We are proposing 6 studies for the RRTC. RS1 is a systematic review of the literature to assess and organize the relevant research to inform our work. RS2 is a pilot intervention development RCT on effective KT methods for Pre-ETS counselors working with students with significant disabilities ages 14-16. RS3 is an RCT on the effects of paid internships for at-risk youth with disabilities prior to graduation. RS4 is an RCT on the effects of technology for college students with TBI. RS5 is an intervention development RCT on the effects of paid work in high school of youth with severe disabilities. Study #6 is an intervention development QED on the effects of an online course and subsequent technical assistance for postsecondary staff providing employment supports for college students with I/DD. Other objectives involve disseminating products and providing technical assistance and training to all stakeholders in the transition field.
