During this three-year project, the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care, in partnership with the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities and other key stakeholders, will support Long-Term Care (LTC) ombudsman advocacy for LTC residents and equip them to address emerging national and state issues. The goals of this project are to: (1) enhance Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP) capacity to effectively advocate for residents, individually and systemically; and (2) develop innovative, effective approaches for providing ombudsman services. The objectives are to (1) provide training and materials to enhance skills; (2) provide products and forums on program management and LTC issues; (3) provide technical assistance and information on program management, promotion, training and LTC issues; (4) promote public awareness of the LTCOP; (5) encourage collaborations, strengthening ombudsman involvement in state and national initiatives; and (6) maintain a website for ombudsmen and the public. Anticipated outcomes include: (1) resources and technical assistance enable ombudsmen to advocate more effectively on behalf of residents; (2) resource papers, best practices, training, replicable models and other Center products equip ombudsmen to improve their training, management, program promotion, and advocacy functions; (3) current, accurate information is available through NORC to the public about the LTC ombudsman; and (4) relevant, timely information on LTC issues, legislation, and policies support ombudsman participation in policy discussions, research, and other arenas that address residents¿ interests. Products will include technical assistance and best practice materials; substantive and program management training; dialogues with others in the aging and disabilities communities; and a website that provides current, comprehensive information.
