ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATORY ENHANCEMENT FOR THE FORT BIDWELL INDIAN PAIUTE TRIBE - Fort Bidwell is a federally recognized tribe with the 9 member tribal council who governs the affairs of the tribe. The land base consist of 3,244 acres, e,300 are forested of fir, pine and cedar. The land has hot springs and 2 main water sheds, one furnishes water to the town of Fort Bidwell. There are 222 enrolled members with 147 of them living on the Reservation. Fort Bidwell Indian Reservation has been actively involved in developing its Tribal government improving the health and welfare of its members revitalizing its culture, becoming self-reliant, and protecting its land base. Through the ANA funds requested herein, the tribe seeks to strengthen the preservation its environmental resources. This project will assist the Tribe in its efforts to develop an environmental regulatory system and enhance its governmental capacity through the following initiatives:Enhance governmental infrastructure through a community based review and revision of the Tribe's Constitution to include a subsection for environmental policy develop ordinances to govern area of environmental concern.
