Absentee Shawnee Tribe Energy Resiliency, Workforce Development, and Microgrid Planning Initiative - The microgrid project establishes a comprehensive, construction‑ready plan to strengthen Tribal energy sovereignty, resilience, and long‑term sustainability. Through Purpose Area 2 of the ANA EAGLE program, the project develops the full technical, operational, and financial foundation required for future microgrid construction and implementation. The initiative conducts detailed technical, engineering, site, load, and economic assessments to identify a feasible microgrid configuration for critical Tribal facilities. These analyses evaluate outage history, resilience needs, renewable energy potential, and priority sites, ensuring the system design aligns with real operational conditions. The project then advances the microgrid to construction readiness by completing engineering design, interconnection analysis, environmental and cultural reviews, site characterization, and procurement planning—producing shovel‑ready documentation that meets industry and DOE standards. To support long‑term sustainability, the project builds Tribal capacity through hands‑on training, operational procedures, and workforce development activities that prepare staff to manage, maintain, and expand clean energy systems. A comprehensive financing and implementation strategy identifies construction funding pathways, project costs, energy savings, revenue potential, and ownership considerations, positioning the Tribe to secure capital and make informed investment decisions. Together, these components create a technically sound, culturally grounded, and financially viable microgrid plan that enhances Tribal resilience, protects essential services, and advances energy sovereignty for future generations.
