Cultural Modification of an Evidence Based Healthy Lifestyle Intervention for People Post Stroke Who Identify as Hispanic/Latino - Our proposed project extends on our program of research at Baylor Scott & White by modifying an in-person, evidence-based, CDC-recognized weight-loss intervention called the Group Lifestyle Balance for people post Stroke (GLB-CVA) who identify as Hispanic/Latino. Latino persons post stroke have higher rates of overweight and obesity, pre-diabetes, and diabetes compared to Non-Hispanic White persons, and benefit from interventions that have cultural modifications and is available in their preferred language. Our goal is to improve the health and function of Latino persons post stroke by increasing accessibility of the GLB-CVA curriculum through stakeholder-informed cultural and linguistic modifications. The objectives of this three-year project are to (1) engage an advisory board and consultant team to modify the GLB-CVA to be culturally and linguistically relevant; (2) test the modified curriculum on community-based Latino persons post-stroke; (3) examine participant compliance and fidelity. We will partner with an Advisory Board, Consultant team, and Peer Mentors including Latino persons with stroke-lived experience, clinicians, and researchers. Twenty-four Latino persons post stroke who are overweight/obese will be recruited locally with the support of local Latino agencies and stroke support groups. Outcomes include: (1) an evidence-based culturally and linguistically relevant weight-loss intervention for Latino persons post stroke, (2) evidence of efficacy, compliance, and fidelity, (3) a scalable intervention for use with Latino persons post stroke. Products include (1) an evidence-based, culturally, and linguistically relevant weight-loss intervention for Latino persons post stroke that is free and publicly available, (2) leadership guide to support community implementation, and (3) scientific papers and presentations of study results.
