Emergency Preparedness in Postsecondary Transition Programs - Louisiana State University (LSU) and Louisiana are actively expanding higher education opportunities for adults with disabilities through legislative support for new programs. In 2023, the number of higher education programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) grew to 10 statewide. At LSU, we have increased our inclusion of adults with IDD by implementing a new residential postsecondary transition program for adults with IDD, LSU's Integrative Community Studies program. A current gap in LSU and Louisiana's higher education programs for adults with IDD is (1) evidence-based trainings on developing emergency preparedness plans for adults with IDD and (2) a model accessible emergency preparedness plan for adults with IDD. This Community Living and Participation-focused proposal addresses the invitational priority on improving the extent to which emergency and disaster preparedness plans and systems are accessible to, and responsive to the needs of, people with disabilities. The project goal is to create an evidence-based, accessible emergency preparedness plan and implement emergency preparedness training within postsecondary transition programs at LSU, statewide, and regionally. This proof-of-concept proposal's objectives marry best practices for emergency preparedness and the positive behavior interventions and supports framework to identify challenges and processes, review best practices, collaboratively develop emergency plans, and evaluate plan effectiveness. The Year 1 focus is LSU and Integrative Community Studies. Year 2 expands to all Louisiana postsecondary programs and associated communities. Year 3 outreach is regional. Outcomes include data on knowledge gained by students and program coordinators and feasibility, acceptability, and fidelity of the plan across students and programs. Products include planning documents, materials, and processes.
