The impact of education level on employability and work-life earnings surpasses that of all other demographic variables. This is concerning given that Black individuals with disabilities are the least likely to have a college education. The goal of this 3-year project is to develop and evaluate the utility of an online intervention package (Tech-Jobs) designed to help African American/Black college students with disabilities persist in completing technology degrees and find gainful employment and a pathway to middle-class life. Tech-Jobs is a 10-week online program based on Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) and products adapted from previous research. Four objectives guide the project: (1) Using an iterative feedback cycle, the Tech-Jobs interventions will be developed in partnership with stakeholders through a Community Advisory Team (e.g., Black college students with disabilities, service providers, and a technology professional). (2) The Tech-Jobs beta version will be assessed via a feasibility pilot study (N = 10) and further refined. (3) Two waitlist control trials will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention in helping students strengthen their academic and career self-efficacy and outcome expectancies, crystallize career interests, and promote goal persistence (N = 60). (4) Information and product dissemination strategies will be employed to share the Tech-Jobs interventions and manual. The expected products are: (1) a high quality online intervention series and manual; (2) SCCT assessment battery; (3) service provider training workshop and materials; and (4) publications and presentations. This project aligns with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, which encourages the participation of individuals with disabilities in postsecondary education in high demand fields, including technology.
