Elder Abuse Prevention Interventions Program - Elder abuse has substantial impacts on victims’ health and well being yet there are no evidence based interventions for elder abuse in the primary care setting. Hospital based teams, like the Vulnerable Elder Services, Protection, and Advocacy team, have improved the healthcare response to elder abuse but are limited to the acute medical setting. Here we propose to adapt key components of VESPA with the evidence based RISE intervention to develop a primary care elder abuse intervention. This project will consist of a needs assessment, co-design process, and piloting of the new program with 300 patients in two primary care clinics. We will measure outcomes important to patients, families, health systems, and the community at large including re-victimization, mortality, and health outcomes such as nursing home placement to evaluate the impact of this program. Dissemination activities will include multiple sectors including health care, adult protection, and policy makers. This innovative project would result in the first elder abuse intervention based in primary care.
