Stronger Support for Better Rehabilitation Outcomes: Resource Toolkit for Community Traumatic Brain Injury Support Group Leaders - Goal: AIR proposes a 5-year project to co-develop a Resource Toolkit for Community TBI Support Group Leaders to improve health, function, and community participation of people with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Co-developers include individuals with TBI; their families; community members; TBI technical experts; and representatives from home- and community-based service providers, large TBI organizations, and medical rehabilitation facilities. This proposed project is in the health and function outcomes domain, and the target audience is people with TBI. Objectives and overall approach: The project team will conduct surveys and interviews with community TBI support group leaders and participants to assess what tools and resources they need. Results from the needs assessments will guide product development, dissemination, utilization, and evaluation activities. AIR will collaborate with TBI stakeholders to apply knowledge translation strategies to translate and adapt existing TBI resources developed under the NIDILRR-funded Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center. Products: The resulting Resource Toolkit for Community TBI Support Group Leaders will include evidence-based, ready-to-use, easily accessible, user-friendly tools. Sample tools include short videos, slides, discussion questions, handouts, game cards, activity recommendations, social media messages and graphics, feedback surveys, and a facilitation training manual. Outcomes: As a primary utilization strategy, AIR will engage influencers, ambassadors, and champions. The project will use marketing strategies such as co-branding and customized resources for interested organizations that serve the intended audiences. Through the use of the TBI Support Group Leaders Toolkit, AIR aims to increase awareness, knowledge, capacity for TBI management, self-efficacy, and self-advocacy, leading to improved long-term health, function, and community participation outcomes, and rehabilitation care and services for people with TBI.
