The Georgia Institute of Technology and University of Washington propose the Accommodation Expert Support System for Aging Well (ACCESS for Aging Well). The goal of this project is to conduct Proof of Product and Proof of Adoption Development activities in the outcome domain of Community Living and Participation, to create an online accommodation assessment system that service providers can use while conducting community living evaluations with older adults and their families. The objectives are to develop and evaluate the efficacy of online accommodation assessment system that service providers can use while conducting community living evaluations with older adults and their families. The system will consider all person, environment, and contextual factors in making its recommendations, and it will prioritize suggestions based on information about accommodation effectiveness. It will use feedback from the users and predictive analytics from historical data from state agency partners in Georgia and Washington. A mobile app version will enable service providers to use the resource in the field, in consultation with clients in their homes. The outcomes will be more informed decisions about community living accommodations for older adults with a disability, which will lead to greater independence and continued community living and participation. Service providers and older adults with disabilities will work together to make informed choices about the most appropriate accommodations, including assistive technologies, strategies, inclusively designed features of mainstream technologies and environments, and community services. The products will include the ACCESS for Aging Well system, including validated decision algorithms and its web and mobile interfaces, and new findings on accommodation effectiveness.
