The current application seeks funding to support regional partnership intervention activities in Fairfield and Pickaway counties in Ohio. In these areas, 79% of families involved with Fairfield County Children Services and 67% of families involved with Pickaway County Children Services have identified substance use problems, both higher than the state-wide average of 50%. For Pickaway County, all the substance-involved families were due to opioid (including heroin) misuse, while 58% of all substance-involved cases in Fairfield County involved opioids. These rates are over twice the state average of 28%. We have selected three evidence-based or evidence-informed strategies for the Enhancing Permanency in Children and Families (EPIC) program. These strategies include: (1) family drug treatment court and medication-assisted treatment; (2) peer recovery supporters; and (3) parenting and support for kinship providers. The interventions are intended to holistically provide supports to families involved in the child welfare system due to substance abuse in order to get parents into treatment and increase permanency and well-being for children. Over the course of this regional partnership, we anticipate serving 214 parents through the use of peer recovery supporters, 117 parents via family treatment drug court, and 125 kinship providers through a kinship caregiver support program.
