PI and Title: Kathleen Humphries, PhD, Director of Innovation and Development. Agency: NIDILRR/ACL; CFDA number 93.433, SBIR Phase I. Project Title: My Meals, My Way: A Web-based Nutrition Platform for People with IDD Living Independently. Technical Abstract: Good Nutrition Ideas (GNI) will work with a Community Advisory Board (CAB) and the software developer InspiringApps, to design and test the feasibility of the My Meals, My Way (MMMW-platform) web-based nutrition program for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (pwIDD) living independently. This project addresses NIDILRR’s Major Outcome Domain of Health and Function. The CAB, a group of pwIDD and direct service professionals, is drawn from community partners Makom and Dayle McIntosh Center. The goals of this SBIR Phase I project are 1) Establish the feasibility of the MMMW-platform with pwIDD, and 2) Create the MMMW-platform technical specifications for the web-based nutrition program. The objectives include 1a) Form a CAB; 1b) Co-create and test the feasibility of the MMMW-platform with CAB members; and 2a) Draft and finalize the MMMW-platform technical specifications. The anticipated outcomes of this project include 1) Established feasibility of MMMW-platform with target end-users (pwIDD), and 2) Completed technical specifications of the MMMW-platform that center independent living, nutrition, self-determination, and universal design. The expected product of this Phase I SBIR is a completed MMMW-platform technical specifications document, ready to be built and tested in Phase II. Our anticipated results include that our CAB members will approve of the final design of the MMMW-platform, finding it usable, accessible, and helpful for their own meal planning. Using the technical specifications developed in Phase I, GNI plans to build, test, and commercialize the MMMW-platform in an SBIR Phase II. The MMMW-platform is expected to lead to improved dietary intake, better health, and increased independence for millions of Americans with disabilities.
