The “1+2” Rural Training Track (RTT) “Frontier Track” was recently funded through the FY 2022 THCGME Program allowing Cahaba Medical Care Foundation to build upon the robust residency infrastructure already in place. Four interns that recently started in July 2022 are currently engaged in their first year of training. CMC is proposing to fund the study of the educational and graduate outcomes of comprehensive, fully integrated 4-year residency training in Family Medicine. The goal of this initiative is not to simply add more time but to focus on how extended, tailored curricula can accelerate the development of clinical mastery and provide advanced skills not typically included in Family Medicine residency training that are needed to meet the changing needs of society. Residents will train
in advanced competencies that will improve patient outcomes and increase the workforce of primary care physicians to meet the needs of underserved communities. Main primary training sites: Cahaba Medical Care - Marion (Perry County, AL) and Cahaba Medical Care - Camden (Wilcox County, AL), two of the poorest and most medically underserved counties located in the Alabama Black Belt Region.
