Centering the voices and experiences of our Healthy Start program participants, Community Action Network and other community stakeholders, our planning activities will build off of the synergy of several existing best practice efforts in Allegheny County?such as the CityMatCH Birth Equity Strategies Together (BEST) initiative, Best Babies Zone, and a group of local public health and MCH leaders Healthy Start has convened to begin discussing strategic alignment for improving birth outcomes and infant vitality?to leverage a plan for preventive action, including policy and systems change strategies. Our plan will also focus on meaningful inclusion of our medical, managed care and research partners. Healthy Start, Inc., serves Allegheny County in Pennsylvania, which includes to Pittsburgh Metropolitan area. The absolute gap between the infant mortality rate for Non Hispanic Black versus Non Hispanic White infants was 8.88 for 2016-2018. The annual excess Non Hispanic Black deaths for the same reporting period was 24. The focus of our action plan will be on strategies to eliminate this gap by identifying data-driven policy and systems level strategies to address the social and structural determinants of health that impact IM disparities
for Allegheny County families.
