The purpose of this program is to provide diabetes treatment and/or prevention activities and/or services for our Tribal community. Our diabetes program is aimed at reducing the risk of diabetes in at-risk individuals, providing high quality care to those with diagnosed diabetes, and/or reducing the complications of diabetes. We currently serve 541 diabetes patients, with an active patient population of 12, 423, our diabetes prevalence is 23%. Managing diabetes means taking care of the whole person. The PTHA Diabetes Program offers a variety of services to provide a basis for good health.

PTHA has been able to provide diabetes treatment and prevention services to our Native American population with the help from the Special Diabetes Program for Indians, focusing on patients nursing consultations, nutrition education and fitness education to help support patient needs in diabetes management, and prevention.Our diabetes program works closely with our tobacco cessation nurses in consulting any patient with tobacco cessation/vaping or education needed, our diabetes nurses also work along side our nutritionist and personal training for needs appropriate for each patient.
