Through unwavering community-based engagement, support and advocacy, Thresholds helps people living with mental health and substance use conditions find home, health, and hope. Thresholds’ property at 4219 N Lincoln Avenue, Chicago houses the agency’s Young Adult Program, serving young adults with serious mental health challenges ages 16-21. Most of the youth in the program have cycled through the child welfare system because of severe abuse or neglect they experienced as children. These youth and young adults are at particularly high risk for unemployment, poverty, homelessness, benefit dependence, justice involvement, and suicide. Our Young Adult Program aims to address both their complex trauma and the serious mental health challenges with a multitude of evidence-informed practices geared toward young adults. The program is nationally recognized for its innovative and effective models of service. Grant funds used for the three-story building renovation will support the following: the addition a music recording studio, a remodeled workout facility and upgraded laundry facilities in the basement; a large conference room and additional meeting space on the first floor; hoteling computer workstations, a staff lounge and additional office space for clinicians on the third floor. Thresholds has acquired all of the music recording equipment through another funder. The project also includes new windows on the front and south sides of the building, new flooring and light fixtures throughout the building. The building will be connected to Thresholds’ fob security system, which will include install
ation of security cameras on the exterior and interior of the building.
