Fiscal Year 2023 Capital Assistance for Hurricane Response and Recovery Efforts (CARE) - Address: 1825 NW 167th Street, Miami Gardens, FL 33056-4838 Project Director Name: Delores Dunn Contact Phone Numbers (Voice, Fax): (305) 624-1794, (305) 970-4150 Email Address: ddunn@cfceinc.org Website Address: https://www.cfcecares.org/ Summary: History of the Organization, Community to be Served and Target Population: The Center for Family and Child Enrichment, Inc. is a private, nonprofit, community-based organization that serves low-income residents of Opa Locka and Miami Gardens. The primary care clinic grew out of the organizations work with families and children in who have been abused, neglected and/or abandoned; children with severe emotional disturbances and in need of mental health care; and children in the custody of parents or relatives who are chronic runaways and/or are ungovernable. Each year, the Center serves over 3,000 individuals throughout Miami-Dade County. The Center offers a wide array of health services, including primary care, pediatrics, dental care, behavioral health, and family and community support programs. Brief description of the need for hurricane related repairs/preparation: Damage and destruction can easily become overwhelming during large storms and hurricanes. South Florida is no stranger to harsh rainstorms, damaging winds, and devastating hurricanes. Electricity, phone lines, and power sources are often compromised during hurricanes. Brief summary of the proposed project(s), how the project(s) will address the minor A/R and moveable equipment needs of the Center related to hurricane repair/preparation: The Center is requesting a minor A/R project to update the building’s windows, which are at-risk for hurricane-related damage. CFCE is requesting to replace seventy-two (72) windows with Impact Rated Windows. The Center is also requesting the purchase of satellite phones in case of an emergency. Satellite phone systems work through enhanced and specialized radios, even when cell towers go down. A satellite phone system is best used in a hurricane because they allow the clinic to resume operations as quickly as possible after an event such as a hurricane. Having working communication systems is essential, especially in a disastrous hurricane or inclement weather, and will permit the health center to continue providing health services for underserved populations.
