The BFL SRAE program serves vulnerable youth residing in targeted counties in the city/county of St. Louis and East. St. Louis. The combined teen birth rate (TBR) for the Target Community (TC) is 32.9, 1.6 times as high as that of Missouri (20.3). In addition, the TC is characterized by disproportionately high rates of teen chlamydia (TCR) and teen gonorrhea rates (TGR). In 2019, the TC TCR (4,940.6), was nearly 2.3 times that of the US, 2.6 times that of MO, and 2.5 times that of non-TC youth in St. Louis. The TGR for the TC (3068.0.) was nearly seven times that of the nation, 5.5 times as high both MO and non-TC ZIP codes. Nearly a third (30.4%) of those residing in the TC in 2019 (and more than 45% of children under 18) were living below the poverty line. The BFL SRAE program is providing evidence-based SRAE curricula Relationships Smart Plus (RSP) for middle school-age youth and positive youth development services in the areas of success sequencing, healthy relationship education, career preparation and healthy life skills to 500 youth ages 12-15 annually for each of the 3 years, for a total of 1,500. From September 30th through February 28th, 2023, BFL has served 339 youth, over the course of 5 different sites.
