The goal of Maine's SPF Rx is to increase the number of citizens living safe, healthy and productive lives by decreasing opiate addiction in Maine. The project will focus on all Maine citizens ages 12 and older and medical and pharmaceutical providers. The SPF Rx priorities and objectives specifically will result in reductions in: lifetime misuse of prescription drug misuse among high school students, from 11.0% to 9.0%; past month misuse of prescription drug misuse among high school students, from 4.8% to 3.9%; past year nonmedical use of pain relievers among adults, from 3.1% to 2.5%; past month prescription drug misuse among adults, from 1.0% to 0.8%; lifetime prescription drug misuse among adults, from 4.5% to 3.7%; the annual number of drug related overdose deaths, from 272 to 222; the annual number of narcotic prescriptions dispensed, from 1,224,087 to 997,027; the annual number of narcotic prescriptions dispensed per capita, 0.92/person to 0.74/person; annual number of narcotic pills dispensed per capita, from 60/person to 48/person; and the annual number of unsolicited threshold reports (in-state), from 11,517 to 9,381.
