The coalition will prevent and reduce youth substance use by implementing the following strategies: Capacity building activities such as increasing membership in the coalition and it's committees; developing a youth group; providing training to coalition members on prevention strategies and coalition work; developing educational materials for the county on alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drugs; providing prescription drug drop off days; developing materials for parents on the importance of locking up alcohol and medications in the home; conducting party patrols where law enforcement patrol known "party" areas; operating a Diversion Program where youth are arrested are given a course on alcohol and other drug dangers for a drop of first time charge; patrolling the annual Crab Fest where underage drinking and drug use is known to occur; conducting compliance checks to make sure alcohol merchants are not selling to youth; publicizing vendors who do and do not sell to youth; conducting an environmental scan of alcohol selling establishments to see alcohol signage practices and placement; helping businesses with developing Drug Free Workplaces; and other policy initiatives.
