Wisconsin was one of the original states in the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance (BRFSS) system at its inception in 1984. Since then, the state Division of Public Health and its partners have come to rely on BRFSS as the principal data source for tracking health risks and chronic health conditions, and providing empirical support for numerous strategic efforts to improve the health of Wisconsin adults. More recently, Wisconsin is turning its attention to reducing health disparities and promoting health equity, and once again, BRFSS data are the source of choice for these evolving efforts. In keeping with this focus, the primary activities Wisconsin proposes for the new project period covered by the current application are those supporting an increase in Wisconsin’s BRFSS annual sample size, in order to enhance statistically reliable estimation at the sub-state and demographic group levels. Wisconsin BRFSS staff are qualified to carry out the activities and collaborate with CDC to achieve the identified program outcomes.
