In recent years, dangerous emerging infectious diseases have constantly occurred with higher frequency, at a high rate of spread and high mortality in the world, such as SARS, Avian influenza A (H5N1), influenza A pandemic (H1N1), Ebola, MERS-Cov, Avian influenza A (H7N9), Zika, etc. These pathogens which have influenced high impact on people's health, including pandemic diseases and many potentially caused pandemic diseases. Dangerous epidemic prone communicable diseases change complicatedly from 70 to 100 outbreaks annually, resulting to thousand cases and deaths. These are mainly food, air and vector born diseases (cholera, typhoid, dengue fever, encephalitis, etc.). During the recent years, new diseases have turned themselves up, along with the return of diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria and the increase of food poisoning outbreaks, affecting the public health.The project aims to increase regional and national capacity in Vietnam to detect, prevent and respond to epidemic events. It will be 5 years period and focus on developing a regional laboratory network with reference labs links human and animal health, meets international standards; Establishing timely, reliable, and corss-sector surveillance systems that enable early detection of EIDs; Developing and effective workforce able to prevent, detect, and respond to emerging infectious diseases threats; Establishing a fully functioning command center for monitoring and coordinating response to emerging and re ? emerging public health threats at each appropriate level of administration; Preventing and Controlling the emergence and spread of AMR through effective and rational use of antimicrobials in human and animals. In summary, the outcomes of the proposed project activities will improve Public Health System in Southern Vietnam to rapidly and effectively respond to communicable diseases which are the major problem of this Region.
