Project Abstract The purpose of the Medfield Cares About Prevention (MCAP) coalition Drug Free Communities project is to reduce and prevent youth substance use. Short term expected outcomes include: Improved knowledge regarding patterns of youth substance use and increase the capacity of local agencies and organizations to address youth substance use by engaging 100% of sector representatives and at least 75% of general coalition members in creating the yearly MCAP work plan, as measured by the annual MCAP Member Survey. Increased intergovernmental cooperation, coordination, and collaboration to change the conditions that impact youth substance use by continuing to expand coalition capacity by increasing both general membership and youth membership by 10%, with a focus on increasing representation from health equity priority populations, as measured by MCAP attendance records. To establish a Health Equity Committee consisting of a minimum of three (3) members who will identify a set of strategies to address health disparities for each health equity priority population and present these strategies to the general coalition to be implemented in years 7-10 of DFC funding. To increase the number of Medfield youth grades 6-12 involved in substance-free after school activities by 10% by September 2025, as measured by MHS club attendance and MCAP program attendance records. To conduct one (1) youth alcohol prevention campaign and one (1) youth marijuana prevention campaign directed at adults that each reach at least 75% of Medfield parents/caregivers as measured by direct mailers, social media statistics, emails opened and focus group data. To conduct one (1) youth-led marijuana prevention campaign reaching at least 90% of Medfield youth in grades 9-12, as measured by MCAP program attendance and dissemination records. The long term expected outcomes are by year 10, Reduce the past 30-day rate of alcohol use among Medfield High School students from 35% to the MetroWest region rate of 25%, as measured by the MetroWest Adolescent Health Summary (MWAHS). Reduce the past 30-day rate of binge drinking among Medfield High School students from 25% to the MetroWest region rate of 15%, as measured by the MWAHS. Reduce past 30-day rate of marijuana use among Medfield High School students from 15% to the MetroWest region rate of 12%, as measured by the MWAHS and to sustain programming post DFC-funding.
