There are 3 key components to the project. The first priority is expanding the capacity of dv programs to address the needs of children accessing shelter. This will be accomplished through local and statewide membership trainings, development of materials, train-the-trainer curricula and children focused technical assistance.
The second component of this proejct is to create collaboration between community based services and the local mujmebr program. We will provide joint tranings that are culturally competent and focused on addressing current and future safety needs of children and the abused parent.
The 3rd component is essential. It is the distribution, training and technical assistance of a support group model "The Peaceful Families Project" that will be offered to member programs and agenices providing services in communities where those services are not met by the member program. The support group model is a concurrent model of two groups. ONe group adressing the needs of the abused mother to increase her ability to best meet the needs of her children who have been exposed to DV and concurrent age-appropriate groups for children to address tehri needs after exposure to domestic violence. These groups will be offred to families residing in shelter as well as those who are still in their own homes.
