The goal is to provide the infrastructure and resources that will enable domestic violence and mental health agenices to be able to work more effectively with survivors and children who are dealing with both domestic violence and mental health issues. The project has three major objectives. 1) Promote dialogue and build consensus within the national domestic violence community about how to best address the mental health needs of domestic violence survivors and their children and how to respond most effectively to the traumatic effects of domestic vioelnce and lifetime abuse. 2) Enhance the capacity of domestic violence programs to service women and children who have trauma/mental health needs in a trauma sensitive, culturally competent manner through training, technical assistance and the dissemination of training materials and practice guidelines. 3) Influence policy - generate recommendations, identify priorities and develop strategies to help build the research and resource base neccessary to support effective strategies for meeting the trauma and mental health related needs of domestic violence survivors and their children.
