The State of New Hampshire (NH) Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Program is located in the Maternal and Child Health Section of the New Hampshire’s Department of Health and Human Services. The NH EHDI Program recognizes that significant hearing loss is one of the most common congenital disabilities. The NH EHDI Program seeks to ensure all deaf or hard of hearing (D/HH) newborns, infants, and young children up to age three receive appropriate and timely services, including hearing screening, diagnosis, and early intervention (EI). In order to provide high quality care for these children, the NH EHDI Program will continue to maintain, improve and work towards the following: • Increase to 98% or higher screening rate by one month of age • Increase the percent of infants who have complete audiological diagnostic testing by three months of age • Increase the percent of infants who are enrolled into early intervention by six months of age • Collaborate with family organization/s and Part C (early intervention) • Increase health care professionals knowledge about timely follow-up for infants who do not pass the final newborn hearing screening • Create an infrastructure to collect language acquisition in children ages 0-3 The NH EHDI Program is well poised to continue to work successfully with hospitals, birth centers, diagnostic centers, Part C, and the NH family based organization (FBO) to achieve outcomes that include improved documentation of follow-up in order to better support early identification of D/HH As the role model program evolves, the NH EHDI Program works closely with the FBO to plan, implement and evaluate supporting families by providing unbiased information and resources. The NH EHDI Program aims to improve its work with audiologists and early intervention providers to assure infants who are identified with a hearing loss are successfully enrolled into early intervention by six (6) months of age. Lastly, the NH EHDI pro gram will collaborate with partners to establish a system infrastructure to collect language acquisition for D/HH children up to age three.
